Cubism in Bilbao

A striking recent addition to the city of Bilbao, the Health Department Headquarters, was designed by Coll-Barreu Architects. It is most recognizable for its cubist facade of glass. The glass panels are placed at irregular angles reflecting the surrounding neighborhood and the city.

The double facade provides efficient energy and acoustic insulation, eliminating the need for a conventional air-conditioning installation and reducing the noise generated by the building as well as its carbon footprint.
